Our Clinics

The practice is contracted by East Sussex Downs & Weald Primary Care Trust for the provision of general medical services which, in addition to those essential services, includes:

Cervical Smear Checks

Available to all women, and performed by the doctor or practice nurse. This should be performed three-yearly in all adult women, but more frequently in certain cases. Patients are invited by letter when they are due for a test. Results may take up to eight weeks. You will be informed of your result by post.

Well Person Checks

All new patients are offered a health check on registration, but the offer is open to all our patients. The checks are usually conducted by our practice nurses, who offer advice on diet, weight, exercise, smoking, alcohol and stress control. They also check blood pressure and urine. Please ask the receptionist for details.

Family Planning Advice

This is provided by the doctors or practice nurses, and covers advice and provision of the range of contraceptive options available.

Child Health Checks And Child Immunisations

These are provided at regular intervals by the doctors, health visitor and practice nurse. The screening checks monitor growth, development and well-being of children. It is important for children to be immunised against the handicapping illnesses of childhood. If you have any doubts about this protection, please discuss these with your doctor.

Travel Vaccinations

These need to be booked in advance, by appointment with the practice nurse. An adequate time for the full course needs to be given for satisfactory protection. This may be up to two months. You will be asked to complete a Travel Consultation Information Sheet before your appointment.

Send or take the completed form to the surgery prior to booking an appointment in the Travel Clinic.

Flu And Pneumococcal Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are given annually in October to those groups of patients who may be 'at risk', such as the elderly, or those suffering from heart or chest conditions. Pneumonia vaccinations are given to the elderly and 'at risk' patients. A single vaccination is sufficient to provide protection.

Maternity Medical Services

This includes both antenatal and postnatal care. Antenatal clinics are conducted at regular intervals by the doctor and midwife, in the period leading up to birth. Care of pregnant mothers is usually shared between your doctor and the obstetric specialist. (Also see 'Midwives'.)

Minor Surgery

We carry out a variety of minor surgical procedures, which would be discussed with you in advance by the doctor.

Additional Services

Ashdown Dental Practice is open for NHS and private treatments at The Brook Health Centre.

St Denys Pharmacy at The Brook Health Centre is also open during surgery hours (until 5.30pm) for prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines.
